If someone in your family is due to graduate in 2017 and has been participating in the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) or Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP), then the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation has some terrific news for you. Over the last four years, they've assisted graduating seniors with college scholarships to the tune of $200,000 and counting. 2017 will be no exception: Qualifying SCTP and SASP students are urged to apply for the scholarships now. The deadline is April 17, so click over to their online application form as soon as you've finished this article to put your name into the hat...or shooting cap, as the case may be.
The SSSF is working to make sure that the application and selection process is simple. Each applicant must be a graduating senior within the year of the awarded scholarship and must be registered for college before the scholarship is awarded in that same year. They must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA through the most recent grading period ending on or before April 1, 2017. Each prospective recipient must be registered as a full-time college student before the scholarship is awarded and must provide the name of the post-secondary college or community/ junior college to receive the scholarship proceeds. Each scholarship check will be mailed to the appropriate college in the student's name by October 1. The scholarship funds are to be used for tuition, fees, etc. This is a one-time, non-renewable scholarship, and the applicant may not be in receipt of any "full" scholarship funds (i.e., athletics, military academy, academic and so on). Applicants must have participated during 2016-2017 in one of their SCTP / SASP State Championships, National Championships or regional events in Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays or Olympic Bunker; Olympic Skeet Championships, Pistol or Rifle.
The application packet includes the application/personal information page, a one-page student resume or School and Non-School Activities and honors, a one-page essay (guidelines are on the application form) and a high-school or homeschool transcript.
