We all know that hunting isn't just a sport; it's an American tradition, one that defines our relationship to the wild outdoors--and it's a tradition badly in need of new people to enjoy it and carry it on. That's why this fall Savage Arms and Powderhook are teaming up with several outdoor companies to celebrate those who go the extra mile in bringing someone new into the hunting community. If you've never tried introducing someone to hunting, know that it's definitely a rewarding experience in and of itself...but thanks to Savage and Powderhook, you could also win a $12,000 prize package for both you and your new hunter. It's called the Generation Grit contest, and here's how it works.

The contest sponsors want you to share your story of you and your new hunter's journey, so they're requesting that you post a brief (500 words or fewer) recap of your experience, along with a photo and/or video. The story has to be from the year 2019, and the contest is open from Nov. 8 through Dec. 31 (so your spring turkey hunt or winter duck quest does count). Simply post your tale and image at savagearms.com/grit.

What, then, of the prize list? Well, the experienced and apprentice winners will each receive a Texas Whitetail Hunt with Savage Ambassador Mike Stroff, a Savage Model 110 Storm Rifle, a case of Federal Barnes TSX Ammo, Traeger Pro 780 Grill Package, Vortex Viper HSLR Rifle Scope, boots, camouflage gear, targets and more.

Hunting is a hardcore test of character filled with early mornings and extreme conditions—all in the name of meat, memories and time in the field. Savage makes the guns favored by seasoned hunters and those who are just beginning to test their skills, but this is about the people who have mastered these tools, and who share their mastery with others.

“It takes a special person to teach someone how to hunt,” said Beth Shimanski, Director of Marketing for Savage Arms. “Mentors deserve more recognition. The Generation Grit contest is Savage’s way of giving back to those who share their knowledge and experience with others.”

Generation Grit is just one part of a larger mission to bring attention to hunting. Savage Arms is pleased to partner with the National Shooting Sports Foundation, Federal, Vortex, Yeti, Bushnell, Traeger, Duluth Pack, Primos, Sovereign Sportsman Solutions, Mossy Oak, Hoppes, Champion, Butler Creek, Alps Outdoorz, and Danner to support the +ONE Hunter Initiative—an effort to support those who take their hunting heritage to the next level by encouraging conservation and preservation through the education of new hunters.\
