Escort is (justly) famous for their reliable, hardy and budget-friendly shotguns, but the year 2020 brings something new: Escort's first long gun, simply named the 22LR. As astute readers may have noticed, this is a bolt-action rifle chambered in...you guessed it!...22LR. Like Escort's other offerings, the 22LR was created for NRA families who love to hunt and shoot, but also have other things to spend their money on. With MSRPs starting at $250, the 22LR will leave plenty of cash in your family budget.

Another point that's also very much in line with the Escort way of doing things is that they're offering the 22LR in a youth/ladies model with a compact stock. It's proof that Escort cares about making sure that all shooters have access to affordable long guns, even if they need those long guns to be just a little shorter. Although many junior shooters and NRA Women are already experienced with marksmanship and gun safety, both young people and women who are new shooters do better with small-caliber guns that fit.

Simple to operate and easy to maintain, this rifle includes a five-round and a 10-round magazine and sports a hard chrome-plated steel alloy receiver and barrel to resist rust. The safety mechanism is easy to operate, another boon for inexperienced shooters. The threaded barrel is fitted with a protective cap and is ready to accept a variety of popular muzzle accessories. Mounted studs are ready to accept a wide array of slings.

The Escort 22LR is available in two stock variants. The Turkish walnut stock offers fish-scale textured grip areas and a recessed magazine well. This stock also features Hatsan's DuoTex buttpad for consistent, easy shouldering. The synthetic stock model features texturing of the grip areas and a Picatinny accessory rail under the forearm. The buttstock also has a storage slot for a spare 5- or 10-round magazine and is equipped with a soft ventilated buttpad.

MSRP $249 for synthetic stock version; $299 for walnut. Hatsan.com
