Beretta is the oldest continuously owned family firearms business in the world at 495 years old, but the famed gun company continues to innovate. Its latest introduction is the APX A1 Carry, an updated iteration of the APX Carry platform ... but don't let all the acronyms fool you: This is a carry gun perfected for people new to the world of guns.

The APX Carry platform began as a line of semi-autos optimized for concealed carry, and what the APX A1 brings to the lineup is all about ease of use. New shooters (and experienced ones, and ones who are experiencing the joys of aging eyes) usually benefit from the addition of an intuitive aiming device like a red-dot optic. The APX A1 Carry joins the red-dot-ready trend with a factory slide designed to receive a variety of optics plates--one of which will be provided free by Beretta as part of the warranty registration process. Choices include including Burris, C-more, Shield RMS-C and the Holosun K Series.

New shooters also usually benefit from reduced felt recoil and a nice, clean trigger (to say the least). Now with a shorter and lighter trigger pull than its predecessors, the enhanced ergonomic and sensory experience consists of a clean trigger break with quick reset, aiding with consistent shot placement and ease of use. It also a low bore axis that produces less felt recoil and a natural point of aim, which dramatically improves follow-up shot acquisition.

The APX A1 also boasts aggressive slide serrations, a textured grip frame and a flat trigger guard, which helps the shooter keep a firm, secure, instinctive grip in all situations. Where the APX A1 Carry really shines, though, is when you can't see it at all: The single-stack, sub-compact and thin grip design makes it essentially invisible, no matter the clothes you wear or whether you carry inside or outside the waistband.

Available in Standard Black, Flat Dark Earth, Wolf Grey, and OD Green frame colors, this versatile pistol can be customized for each individual with the selection of the ideal magazine for their concealment style: an extended 8-round magazine, a 6-round magazine with pinky extension, and a flush baseplate (included in the box). MSRP $449; beretta.com
