Hunters are some of the most generous, caring people in the world. Feeding the needy with the high-quality, healthy protein we hunt is a joy. Thing is, there are rules about donating meat ... rules that change from state to state. There's also frequently a cost associated with donating venison, if the local laws require that the deer be professionally processed and butchered. That's why the NRA's Hunters for the Hungry subsidy program was first established--to make it easier for our nation's hunters to share their harvest with the hungry.
This initiative, supported by the National Rifle Association and our Hunters Leadership Forum, gives back to communities by supplying thousands of meals to the needy throughout the country. The NRA works closely with state programs/affiliates to put interested individuals in touch with programs in their area and foster public awareness through education, fundraising, and publicity.
Over the years, Hunters for the Hungry has delivered millions of pounds of venison to homeless shelters, soup kitchens and food banks all over America. This year, the NRA's contribution will total $100,000 for the Hunters for the Hungry (HFH) subsidy program. Subsidy payments, up to $2,000 each, are available to established Hunters for the Hungry programs. Awarded subsidies are available right now, and hunters can apply for them at https://hfth.nra.org/hfh-subsidy/.
There are around 40 unique Hunters for the Hungry/Hunters Sharing the Harvest organizations operating on shoestring budgets trying to get donated game meat to those who need it most. The NRA is doing our part, and we encourage hunters to donate to those programs, too ... whether that's through a monetary donation or through the donation of harvested game meat.
