They say "everything's bigger in Texas," and if the Starlight 3 Gun Championship Presented by Timney Trigger is anything to judge by, they say correctly. This year's Championship will take place March 8-11, 2017 in the Lone Star State at the Copperhead Creek Gun Club in Marble Falls, Texas. Why do they call it the "Starlight" Championship? Well, when when darkness falls across the Texas landscape, that's when the nation's top 3-gun competitors will light up the night.
This fun-filled, family-friendly event will be well worth letting the kids stay up past their bedtimes (if only this once.) The Starlight 3 Gun is an exciting and fun-filled spectator event that features great shooting competition, live musical entertainment, light shows and fireworks.
"We're planning a Texas-sized event," says Starlight organizer Jim Shepherd, "You're going to have fun from the time you arrive until you head home. This year we'll once again be offering great food from Southern Man Camps. Our spectator areas will feature sponsor exhibits with the latest and greatest products in shooting sports, and we'll have plenty of other surprises."
Hometown favorite and defending champion Nick Atkinson will face tough competitors, all determined to keep him from walking away with another $20,000 payday. Atkinson cashed in big last year by taking the Timney Cup title for the overall match and the $5,000 SIG SAUER winner take all Championship Stage. Ladies champ Lena Miculek will be back to defend her title, but a top field of ladies will join her to see if they can't bring home one of the richest paydays in women's shooting.
Unlike other competitions, the Starlight 3 Gun Championship pays the same purse to both the overall and ladies champs. The cash and prizes make competition fierce, but the fact that shooters must add lights and lasers to their usual 3-gun rigs takes the excitement off the charts for shooters and spectators.
Sponsors for the Starlight 3 Gun include Presenting Sponsor Timney Triggers, SIG SAUER, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, Colt Competition, Mossberg, MagPul and Vortex Optics.
There are a limited number of professional and amateur competition slots remaining, so interested shooters are encouraged to e-mail Match Director Chuck Anderson directly ([email protected]).
