A few weeks ago, in honor of the tradition of telling frightening tales around the campfire, we announced our "Spooky Tales To Tell Around the Campfire Contest." Since then, we've published six weird tales, all penned by outdoor writers, about the funny things that sometimes happen in the woods. Five of these tales were true; one was pure fiction. We dared our readers to guess which was which, with the possibility of having their own scary story published here. Today, we're ready to announce the winners...but first, let's recap:

"The Bare Hill Serpent," about an uneasy encounter between a hunter and what might have been a Seneca legend, is here.

"Big Brother," about a man rescued from hypothermia by someone from the other side, is here.

"Fear Doesn't Age," here, is about a young camper who confronts someone who seems to covet her youth...in a spooky way.

"The Radio In the Cabin," the fourth story, features a hunter seemingly haunted by the ghost of the man who built the cabin in which she sleeps.

In "Helvetia Cemetery," the fifth story, an outdoor photographer captures something that he wasn't quite expecting in an abandoned Old West graveyard.

In "Medicinal Twist," the sixth and final tale, a young EMT-to-be brings his mother back from near death...with a story of her own.

Drumroll, please...

Boo! The only story that isn't true is "Fear Doesn't Age"! This tale from author Laura Cromwell taps into vampire legends in a unique way...but it's definitely fiction. Congratulations to Megan Wollgast and Serena Juchnowski for guessing correctly!
