The Taft Union High School Trap Club in Taft, California, is the most recent beneficiary of The NRA Foundation's largesse. As you may know, The NRA Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization that raises tax-deductible contributions to promote firearm and hunting safety, to enhance marksmanship skills of those participating in the shooting sports, and to educate the general public about firearms in their historic, technological and artistic context. And now, grants facilitated by the Central California Friends of NRA have donated guns, ammunition, targets, cleaning supplies, and eye and ear protection to the shooting-sports enthusiasts of Taft Union High.
Organized in 2013 by recently retired TUHS Maintenance, Operations & Transportation Manager Gary Morris, the Taft Union High trap club is quickly growing in popularity. Each potential trap club member must complete the NRA FIRST Steps Shotgun Orientation Training, possess the physical, mental and emotional maturity to participate in a team shooting sport, and maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA to be eligible to participate.
“Club members appreciate that without the fundraising Friends of NRA does for The NRA Foundation grant program, the Taft Union High School Trap Club would not exist,” said Friends of NRA Volunteer Coleen Morris.
