The NRA's Three Rules of Gun Safety are simple: 1.ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction; ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot; ALWAYS keep the gun unloaded until ready to use. Rule Number One is first for a good reason, because even if the other two rules somehow fail, it will prevent injury. But how do you reconcile that with the things you need to do in order to get your firearm out of and, most importantly, back into, its holster?
Spend a moment thinking about appendix carry and the angles that one uses to tuck an object into one's waistband area. It sort of sounds as if, in order to put your gun back into an appendix holster, you would have to allow the gun's muzzle to cover a very sensitive part of your anatomy. But that's not actually true, as long as you know how to properly handle your concealed-carry gun.
In this great episode of CCW Minute, Shooting Illustrated's Kevin Creighton walks you through exactly what to do to make sure your gun's muzzle never covers any part of your body. Safe and happy shooting from all of us at the NRA!
