If you're a regular NRA Family reader, then you know that hunters are America's most dedicated conservationists...but did you know that Federal Ammunition's commitment to conservation started over 80 years ago, and that their support is still growing to this day? In fact, Federal Ammunition has recently hired Jon Zinnel as Conservation and Youth Shooting Program Manager--a dedicated position at the factory--to ensure this tradition continues for decades to come.
This move, though unusual in the industry, shouldn't come as a surprise; after all, Federal's been bringing the ideals of conservation to the next generation of shooters and hunters for a long, long time. Over 80 years ago, Federal began assisting the 4-H Shooting Sports Program, so it's fair to say that Federal touted conservation "before it was cool." It is also the biggest proponent of conservation through on-box royalty programs and a legacy of partnerships that started in 1935.
Zinnel most recently served as Conservation and Youth Shooting Program Manager for Vista Outdoor, supporting multiple consumer brands from Federal and CCI to CamelBak and Champion Traps & Targets. He was part of growing partnerships with Scouting BSA, 4-H, IHEA and conservation programs from Pheasants Forever to National Wild Turkey Federation and many more. This move from corporate headquarters to the factory gives Federal more control and dedicated support for these efforts.
“Conservation is a critical part of our heritage and key to the future of our sport,” said Jason Vanderbrink, president of Federal. “Having a dedicated position at the factory will build on a legacy that started here more than 80 years ago and was solidified for 42 years under the late Bill Stevens. Our employees take great pride in giving back to wildlife, habitat and youth shooting programs and that will continue.”
