The role of an emissary is to convey messages, and the Springfield Armory Emissary message just got underlined and bolded in black. Three years ago, Springfield debuted its Emissary to massive acclaim. Today, the company has announced four new additions to the 1911 Emissary family of pistols, and they're saying, "Black is the new black."
These all-black variants are offered in 4.25” and 5” barrel lengths, and are chambered in either 9mm or .45 ACP. With the addition of these all-black variants—and with the 4.25” model now featuring a full-length dustcover with a strip of Picatinny rai —there are even more options for the defense-minded user with a desire for custom-style features.
As with the original two-tone models, these new pistols are constructed with a forged steel frame and slide for strength and durability. Sporting a black Cerakote finish, the pistols feature the eye-catching and distinctive squared trigger guard that offers additional room for ease of operation with a gloved hand.
The slide’s “Tri-Top” cut gives the Emissary custom styling, while a flattened top strap is finished with 40 line-per-inch (l.p.i.) serrations to diffuse light and reduce glare. On top, the tritium and luminescent front sight on the Emissary pairs with a Tactical Rack U-Dot™ rear sight for easy target acquisition in all lighting conditions.
Inside the slide, a bushingless stainless steel bull barrel with a black nitride finish delivers maximum accuracy while reducing felt recoil and muzzle flip. In addition, the Emissary’s skeletonized hammer delivers ultra-fast lock times and combines with a solid-body, flat-faced trigger for top-end performance.
The frame’s front strap and mainspring housing are wrapped in a grenade-pattern texture for firm engagement in adverse conditions, which are matched with slim line grip panels by VZ Grips machined from G10. Each pistol comes with two top-quality magazines with base pads. MSRP for each of the four new variants is $1,378. Springfield-Armory.com
