It has only been about three months since iconic outdoor brand GSM acquired Cold Steel, a best-in-class manufacturer of knives, axes and other edged tools, and we're already seeing some exciting developments. Today, we've learned that Cold Steel is expanding its Double Safe Hunter line of folding lockback knives with three new colors—camo, orange and green. Although they're geared for hunters, they're also good for the sort of everyday tasks you require of your everyday carry (EDC) knife too.

The beauty of a lockback knife is its precise control, strength, and convenient storage in daypacks and accessory pockets. The Double Safe Hunter series is all of these things, but with an extra focus on safety. A rocker lock serves as a secondary safety mechanism, and prevents you from accidentally deploying the blade. There's another safety feature: a pronounced finger groove and curved handle profile, to help reduce the chance of your hand slipping down the knife during use. (Ask any hunter who's ever left a blood trail of his or her own away from the spot where they did the field-dressing whether or not this is helpful...)

The Double Safe Hunter also boasts thin glass-filled nylon handle and slip-resistant texturing. It's highly impact resistant (although we don't recommend throwing it). The blade is a wide clip-point design that is perfect for slicing movements typically encountered when field dressing big game, and with a 3.5-inch length, it is all the blade needed to get the job done cleanly and efficiently. Made of high-carbon 8Cr14MoV stainless steel and treated to 57-58 Rockwell hardness, the Double Safe Hunter is tough, corrosion resistant, and easy to maintain a sharp edge.

Additional features of the Double Safe Hunter include a steel pocket clip for securing in pant or pack pockets, a thumb stud for opening assist, and a through-hole at the back of the handle to accommodate a lanyard. MSRP $39.99-44.99; ColdSteel.com
