If you've never heard of Honored American Veterans Afield (HAVA), it's an organization that aids wounded soldiers as they transition to their lives back in the United States. The goal? To boost their confidence and turn their efforts towards the future by reconnecting with their love of the outdoors ... and the American traditions of hunting and firearms. This terrific group has been doing its good work for going on 18 years now, benefiting thousands of veterans and their families. Speaking of families, each year, HAVA hosts a "family day," and this year's was a smashing success.
Over 200 veterans and families spent the day at the San Antonio, Texas, Police Training Academy, where HAVA held its 15th annual Family Day. With a focus on events everyone could enjoy, including range time, great food and prizes, the day also featured a once-in-a-lifetime surprise: a shooting demonstration by the greatest competitive shooter alive, Jerry Miculek.
Free for all attendees, the HAVA Family day was established to thank veterans and their families for their sacrifice to our country, and it's only possible thanks to the support from the gun industry and open-hearted donors. The result is a day filled with lots of laughter, smiles and a sense of hope for those who have given so much for our country.
HAVA Family Day, and all HAVA events are organized and managed by volunteers, many of which are also former military veterans – some of whom are disabled as well. “It certainly lets us know they care,” said Chris Fleming, HAVA’s Event Manager and Marine veteran. “The veteran community is not just a number or a customer. They genuinely care about the veterans they’ve supported since day one.” Would you like to know more about how to support this wonderful organization? Click here!
