Do you like Western movies? This year, Cimmarron Firearms is introducing a real rifle modeled after a fictional story ... it's called the John Russell 1873, and it's straight from the celluloid of the 1967 Western "Hombre." Played by Paul Newman, the John Russell character wields a cut-down Winchester Model 1873 lever-action rifle.
Cimarron's reproduction of that famous movie gun is faithful except for one factor: its chambering. Unlike the original gun, which was chambered in .44-40 (somewhat tough to find these days), the John Russell 1873 is chambered in the (more plentiful and less expensive) .357 Magnum. With a cut-down barrel measuring 20" long, along with an abbreviated magazine tube, the Cimmarron John Russell 1873 otherwise resembles the movie gun in every way ... but unlike most movie guns, which are props with their firing pins removed, this one is made to shoot.
