We're only a few days into 2025 at the time of this writing, and we're already starting to see a trend here at NRA Family ... will this year be the Year of the Double-Stack? Military Armament Corp (MAC) is the latest company to introduce a double-stack pistol, called the MAC Duty 9. This latest 1911 offering from MAC was designed in Knoxville, Tennessee and is built in Turkey by the well-regarded manufacturer, Tisas. This 17-round hammer-fired 9mm is a full-sized semi-auto that promises low recoil and terrific accuracy.
The gun has a 5" bull barrel with an 11-degree target crown, offering a long sight radius for extra accuracy when using iron sights. Speaking of sights, it comes from the factory with a fiber-optic front sight and black serrated rear sight, but (naturally) it has a factory RMR-pattern optic cut on the slide and universal light rail on the frame. It also features a polymer grip module with a subtle yet firm grip texture.
With an overall length of 8.8" and unloaded weight of 30 oz., this handgun wasn't necessarily designed to be concealed. The tradeoff, of course, is that that extra size and weight effectively devours any recoil the soft-shooting 9mm may have had. With a skeltonized hammer with overtravel adjustment and a 4.75-lb. trigger weight, you can expect your shots to break cleanly with very little muzzle rise. A manual thumb safety and grip safety round out the Duty 9's essential features.
The MAC 9 DSD Series pistols come standard with two magazines, cleaning kit, cable lock, an extra mainspring retainer pin and premium lockable hard case. MSRP $1,099; milarmamentcorp.com.
