Nothing makes me cringe like the words, “My husband picked out this handgun for me.” Although we can advise each other on many things in this world, the right pistol is going to be a remarkably personal choice. As men and women have dramatically different hand structures, the thought of either sex selecting a firearm for the other is preposterous. In tune with this concept, Walther Arms released the F-Series, a family of handguns created specifically for the female hand. As this was one of the company’s most overwhelming successes, this year,Walther has followed up with a Pro-X PMM version, which mates features of existing models with assets to make the gun even more fun to practice with.
To move the balance point closer to the palm, the fuller-sized frame is paired with the shorter 3.5” slide assembly. This helps the gun to point more naturally without having to fight the front sight onto target. If you opt to mount a red dot instead, you’ll reap the same benefit, plus weight reduction. Filling the space forward of the muzzle is a Parker Mountain Machine compensator, earning this gun its moniker and substantially cutting down muzzle flip. A flat-faced Dynamic Performance Trigger is added to the package for smoother presses and expedited follow-up shots. As this means you’ll be emptying them faster, the included magazines feature baseplate extensions while the mag well is flared for faster reloads.
Picking it up at the booth, I performed a status check and experienced the racking force reduction that Walther boasts with these pistols. I was also reunited with the reptile-scale-like texture that is used through the grip. This only takes a backseat to the overtly aggressive cocking serrations, making the entire package exceptionally easy to manipulate. As for the fit, I’ll have to leave it to one of the ladies to report on, but I can certainly attest to its slimness and urge anybody with a smaller hand to try one of these on at their local gun store.
