When we here at NRA Headquarters got the word that Cabela's was going to be opening a new store just a few miles down the road in Gainesville, Virginia, we could hardly contain our excitement. When we received word that there would be a media-only preview prior to the store's grand opening on Thursday, March 9, we left a trail of burned rubber and smoke in our wake. Shooters, hunters and outdoors enthusiasts all know the superstore as a terrific resource for everything outdoors, but what many people don't know is that the stores are a family destination in and of themselves. Not only can you count on shopping until you drop, you can also expect fun activities, breathtaking taxidermy displays and educational opportunities at every turn.

From the moment visitors walk in the door, they're greeted with stunning proof of the brand's commitment to the outdoor lifestyle and to the Second Amendment. (That bald eagle, by the way, is the only fake taxidermy in the store. It was hand-crafted from other, legal fowl.) From there, families can treat themselves to fresh fudge, hand-made daily in the store, learn fishing techniques, try out the store's archery range or even shoot BB guns at their indoor pellet-gun range.

Hey, you commute your way, we'll commute ours.

We're told that shoppers will be able to test-drive these all-terrain vehicles to get an idea of how they handle.

In addition to its Gun Library, Bargain Cave, camping accessories, recreational outdoor vehicles, fishing gear and just about every specialized outdoor product you can think of, Cabela's also has a wide variety of performance and casual clothing for women and men. (None of these are for sale, yet, but you can be assured that we'll be back when they are.)

If you live in the Northern Virginia area, don't miss the grand opening on Thursday, March 9. The first 500 customers in line will receive free Cabela's gift cards as well as the chance to win a shopping spree, a GoPro camera, a Remington firearm or any number of awesome outdoor accessories. There will be celebrity appearances, too: TV's Eva Shockey, Trent Cole, Mike Hanback and others will be on hand. (Click here for a complete list of celebrity scheduled appearances.)

If you don't live in the Northern Virginia area, no worries! There are dozens of other Cabela's superstores nationwide and in Canada, and each of them offers a variety of family-focused activities regularly. (Click here to find one near you.)
