You don't have to be looking at the prices on the grocery-store shelves to start thinking about sourcing your food elsewhere, but it sure doesn't hurt! Here's the interesting news: Trendy restaurants aren't the only ones that can create sustainable, wild-harvested, local meals from the fat of the land ... you can, too! Emmy Award winner and four-time James Beard Award-winning TV personality and chef Andrew Zimmern is just the guy to show you how. He's hosting a new series titled Andrew Zimmern’s Wild Game Kitchen, premiering on Outdoor Channel on Monday, September 19 at 9 p.m. EDT.
This is more than just wild-game cookery (although there's plenty of that). Zimmern also shows you some techniques for foraging wild fruits, vegetables and mushrooms to craft side dishes to accompany that healthy wild-game protein. Each episode demonstrates one such meal, and shows you how to recreate it. Zimmern, who is a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations World Food Programme, writer, teacher and world traveler, is also the creator, executive producer and host of Travel Channel’s Bizarre Foods franchise, Andrew Zimmern’s Driven by Food and Emmy Award-winning The Zimmern List. He has dedicated his life to exploring and promoting cultural acceptance, tolerance and understanding through food.
“My goal for this show is to encourage cooks to stretch beyond cooking foods that typically define outdoor grilling and embrace dishes that are just as easy, but far more satisfying to make,” says Zimmern. “In the series I share a range of practical tips that will hopefully be helpful even to more seasoned cooks and enhance the experience of cooking over an open flame.”
“Andrew Zimmern’s Wild Game Kitchen is a great example of how the field-to-plate lifestyle doesn’t have to intimidate hunters and non-hunters in the kitchen,” Outdoor Sportsman Group Vice President of Programming Mitch Petrie said. “Andrew’s presentation and ability to have fun and educate viewers makes Wild Game Kitchen a great addition to our ‘Taste of the Wild’ programming block on Monday nights.” Watch it here!
