When many people hear "gun safety," they either think about the mechanical button you push to put the gun on "safe," or about laws and legislation. They're wrong on both fronts. Gun safety is nearly entirely centered around mindset. That's what we mean when we say that the most important gun-safety device is located snugly between your ears.
The most important part of mindset is understanding that there's no such thing as "casually handling" your firearm, no matter how familiar you are with it. This is of particular importance to seasoned shooters as well as newbies, because it's possible to fall into a cognitive trap in which one thinks one's years of experience means one can't make a mistake.
In this video from our friends at NRAWomen.com, we'll go beyond the NRA's 3 Rules of Gun Safety (ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction; ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot; and ALWAYS keep the gun unloaded until ready to use). We'll demonstrate and discuss how applying those rules works in the real world. Whether you're new to the game or an old hand, please watch and listen ... because the rules of gun safety simply cannot be repeated often enough.
