Paying for college can be a challenge, and that's why we like to highlight the opportunities that are out there for the next generation of NRA Families! One such is the Houston Safari Club Foundation's (HSCF) annual Dan L Duncan scholarships, which has awarded just over $3,000,000 to students pursuing outdoor careers (another favorite topic of ours) since its inception in 1999.
This year, 21 scholarships were awarded to students involved in the study of Wildlife Management, Range Management, Biology and Wildlife and Fisheries Science. They join the previous years' 650 recipients, and it's an august list--many past HSCF scholarship recipients are now top thought leaders, decision makers, educators and research scientists in the conservation world.
Of course, 2023's award season is over, but the 2024 application period opens January 1, 2024 and closes April 15, 2024. Scholarship awards will be mailed in late July of each year. To qualify, you must be an active hunter; have a 3.0 GPA or better; be currently enrolled in an accredited Texas university and involved in the study of Wildlife Management and/or Range Management; demonstrate good leadership abilities, and more. (A full listing of qualifications and required submissions can be found here.)
HSCF understands the future of conservation depends on the education of bright and gifted scholars who will work to protect hunter’s rights and wildlife conservation for decades to come.
