Many people know how invested The NRA Foundation is in our shooting sports communities. This is all made possible through grassroots fundraising efforts by Friends of NRA. Friends of NRA hosts events across the nation led by Field Representatives and hundreds of local volunteer committees. Their goal is to secure the Second Amendment and raise money for the shooting sports. Last year alone, Friends of NRA held over 600 events.
Events are held anywhere from American Legion posts and firehalls, to restaurants and golf courses. These family-friendly events include dinner, games, auctions, and the one-of-a-kind Standard Package items that are carefully selected for freedom defenders each year! Since its inception in 1992, Friends of NRA has held over 25,000 events, reached over 4.7 million attendees and raised more than $1.1 billion gross to support The NRA Foundation’s 501(c)(3) charitable mission.
After the event is over, where does all the money go? Each year, The NRA Foundation allocates half of all net event proceeds for use by the state in which it was raised. Friends of NRA volunteers are appointed to State Fund Committees who then make recommendations of how the local grant funding is dispersed. Often, these grants go to police training programs, school training & shooting programs such as JROTC & clay target teams, shooting range improvements, and other organizations that defend and foster the Second Amendment rights of all law-abiding Americans.
The other half is used by The NRA Foundation to fund projects with a national scope. These monies sustain vital programs such as Youth and Women’s Programs, Range Services, Eddie Eagle, Education & Training, Law Enforcement, Competitive Shooting, Hunter Safety & Services and the National Firearms Museum.
