Earlier this month, we reported on the MidwayUSA Foundation's ambitious goal for "Giving Tuesday," the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. Charities all over the world celebrate the kick-off of the giving season then, but the year 2024 brought a self-issued challenge for the MidwayUSA Foundation: To raise over a million dollars on Giving Tuesday. Donations on Giving Tuesday, December 3, 2024, totaled $566,205, which was matched by the Foundation. This is the most successful Giving Tuesday fundraising campaign that MidwayUSA Foundation has had since its inception!
Teams alone raised $453,424 and top donation-earning teams won additional endowment dollars. Plus, the Foundation awarded random draw prizes to participating teams, giving $80,000 through their Giving Tuesday incentive. The top five teams cumulatively raised over $201,000. Those teams included:
1st Place Mid Carolina Youth Shooting Team – [SC] $53,650 Raised
2nd Place Georgia Competitive Shooters – [GA] $45,000 Raised
3rd Place Gaston Young Guns High School Shooting Team – [NC] $40,000 Raised
4th Place Taunton Marksmanship Unit – [MA] $37,456 Raised
5th Place Doddridge Co 4-H Hot Shots Shooting Sports – [WV] $25,000 Raised
Youth shooting programs rely on their annual MidwayUSA Foundation grant to cover critical expenses that many youth shooting athletes incur when competing. Roy McClain, President, Georgia Competitive Shooters Inc. and founder of Georgia Youth Shooting Sports Foundation spoke about the importance of their MidwayUSA Foundation endowment. “When kids walk through the door, the only thing they have to have is desire. Thanks to the Foundation, we can provide ammo and targets, assist with travel expenses, provide quality coaching, and take care of other administrative needs.”
