Last year, Colt made headlines here at the NRA with its surprisingly affordable CBX rifle--a precision bolt gun designed for long-distance shooting. Now the company has launched an update that's optimized for hunters, simply dubbed the CBX Tac Hunter. A bolt-action hunting rifle loaded with accuracy-enhancing features, it's the perfect tool for big-game hunters. Just like the original CBX, the Tac Hunter has been meticulously crafted to reliably deliver super-tight groups (the rifle comes with a sub-MOA guarantee), with the precision, ergonomics and reliability of a competition rifle. Unlike a competition rifle, however, the CBX Tac Hunter has a shorter, more maneuverable profile and lighter weight.
Currently available in .308 Win. and 6.5 Creedmoor, two of America's most popular precision hunting calibers, the CBX Tac Hunter features 20" and 22" sporter-profile barrels, respectively. Both models feature threaded muzzles for those who'd like to install a suppressor, as well as a user-adjustable trigger. That trigger, by the way, can be tuned to any pull weight between 2.5 and 5 lbs.
One feature that will be appreciated by short-statured shooters is the adjustable length of pull (LOP), which can be altered from 12.75 to 14.25" using three included spacers. Lefties will appreciate the ambidextrous mag release, too!
"On the range is where one can truly appreciate the CBX Tac Hunter," said our testers. "The action is smooth and fast, thanks to the large-diameter bold body and 60-degree throw. We found magazines drop smoothly when needed, thanks to the articulating lever just forward of the trigger guard. Our testers very much appreciated that Colt included an adjustable trigger on the CBX. Its single-stage pull was light and it broke crisply and consistently without overtravel."
