Smith & Wesson's M&P 10mm M2.0 is here to satisfy an oft-overlooked segment of shooters: 10mm fans. The science of terminal ballistics has long informed us that the 10mm cartridge represents an excellent trade-off between "big and slow" chamberings and "small and fast." However, creating a pistol capable of handling the increased pressures generated by the round generally requires some re-engineering. For that reason, the number of semi-autos chambered in 10mm tends to lag behind the more-popular 9mm versions ... and this is a self-perpetuating cycle.
"Until very recently, if you were a fan of the 10mm Auto and wanted a dedicated M&P chambered for that powerhouse pistol cartridge, you couldn't get one," remarks American Rifleman Executive Editor Evan Brune in this video review. "That was until Smith & Wesson came out with the M&P M2.0 in 10mm Auto at the end of 2021. And when they came out with it, they basically gave everyone the options that all the other chamberings have enjoyed."
Continues Brune, "Smith & Wesson started with the frame that it builds its .45 ACP M&Ps off of, so this is a bigger frame than we're used to seeing on a lot of the M&Ps ... It is a full-size frame, in addition to being just a little larger and beefier. So, what that means is, you get a full-size magazine. So it's a 15-round magazine in 10mm. That's a welcome capacity in what is already a powerful gun."
Available in barrel lengths of both 4.6" and 4", the M&P 10mm M2.0 can be had with or without bilateral manual thumb safeties. S&W also recently added a Performance Center model with a compensated muzzle. MSRP $679-$899, depending upon model chosen; Smith-Wesson.com
