Video Review: Walther WMP .22-Caliber Pistol

The WMP (Walther Magnum Pistol) is built to be the most reliable .22 Mag. semi-auto pistol on the market.

Walther has just released its all-new Walther WMP (Walther Magnum Pistol), a .22-caliber semi-auto that the company touts as the most reliable in its class. The .22 Magnum cartridge is one of America's favorite chamberings, but many shooters don't know that the diminutive .22WMR/.22 Mag. has historically been a tad unreliable in a semi-automatic platform. It can be difficult to get it to cycle properly, as there are a wide variety of loads under the .22 Mag. umbrella, and the case design itself resists semi-auto function. Walther's engineers set out to correct that issue ... and their success has resulted in a new NRA Gun of the Week!

This full-size gun wasn't particularly designed for concealment (although such is certainly possible). What it is designed for is easy shooting. At about 28 oz. and an overall length of just over 8", the weight and heft of the gun make recoil nearly nonexistent. Write our American Rifleman field testers, "On the range, the Walther WMP really shines as a great option for range or field use. To ensure reliable function, Walther provides owners with a list of tested and approved loads for the WMP. Our selected loads ran without issue, and we loved the almost-nonexistent recoil that accompanied shooting a fairly low-power round out of a full-size pistol, and having 15 rounds on tap was especially enjoyable."

The Walther WMP also features a sight radius that extends the entire length of the slide, meaning that shooters will be able to acquire a more accurate sight picture than is normally possible with iron sights. This, combined with the lack of recoil and assured cycling, makes this a terrific trainer for new and experienced shooters alike.
