It's always exciting when the firearms engineers of the gun world turn their attention to creating a handgun specifically for women, but this week Walther changed all that with the introduction of its all-new PDP F-Series handguns. Of course there are plenty of rifles and shotguns out there designed just for women—be sure to check out our sister publication, NRA Women, for our extensive archive of the best guns for women. However, in the past, the approach to pistols for women was "shrink it and pink it," meaning that the grips were simply swapped out for smaller (and prettier) ones. New for 2022 is the F-series, which Olympian Gabby Franco praises thusly:
“The PDP F-series is the result of a revolutionary approach to creating a pistol with female shooters in mind. Walther Arms took the difficult task of developing a mid-sized frame handgun that offers high ammo capacity with a smaller grip, shorter trigger, and excellent ergonomics like no other. The F-series is the best tool in the market for self-defense, law enforcement, target shooting, and competitive shooting. It makes me proud to be part of a project to bring a pistol that contributes to many women’s quests to become better shooters!”
The truth is that women's hands aren't just generally smaller than men's. There are some biomechanical differences that affect the way a woman grips a gun. Walther's engineers have addressed that with a grip frame that is precisely engineered to account for those differenes. It also has a new patented operating system resulting in a reduction in slide rack force, which makes it easier to work the slide. The gun maintains the performance duty features of the original PDP, the F-Series pistol is a concealed-carry-ready pistol perfected for women. MSRP $699.99; WaltherArms.com
