When Savage Arms unveiled its new 110 Magpul Scout rifle early this year, the first thing consumers wanted to know was when the line would be expanded to include more calibers. The answer to that question was "soon," and sure enough, here they are! The new chamberings are 5.56 NATO, 6mm ARC, .300 Blackout and 350 Legend; the existing lineup consists of 6.5 Creedmoor, .308 Win and .450 Bushmaster offerings and all are available now.
What's a Scout Rifle? Well, its originator was the legendary Jeff Cooper (who founded Gunsite Academy). He felt that "a Scout Rifle should be chambered for a cartridge available en masse, worldwide, and capable of launching a 150-grain bullet at 2,700 fps ... He also felt that a Scout Rifle should ideally weigh about 6.5 pounds, and no more than 7.5 pounds, including the optical sight and shooting sling. He was a firm proponent of back-up iron sights because of his distrust of optics."
That's what Savage's 110 Magpul Scout brings to the table, all right! Featuring a 16½" matte-black button-rifled barrel with a muzzle brake and adjustable iron sights, it's a modern take on Cooper's vision. Although you can absolutely mount an optic to it, the rifle comes from the factory with an integrated and removable rear peep sight, along with a fully adjustable AR-15 style front sight post.
As per Savage's philosophy, the customization options don't stop there. The user-adjustable AccuTrigger allows for a customizable trigger pull ranging from 1.5 to 4 pounds, ensuring a smooth and precise shot. The Magpul Hunter Stock can be adjusted by the user for length of pull from 13 to 15". And, if you're a lefty, you can get the 110 Magpul Scout from the factory already set up for southpaws. Last but not least, it's available in black and flat dark earth.
The 110 Magpul Scout is equipped with a 10-round AICS-style detachable box magazine, except when chambered in 450 Bushmaster, which has a four round capacity. The three-position tang safety provides added security, while the factory blueprinted action guarantees exceptional performance.
"The 110 Magpul Scout has proven to be a top choice in our lineup," said RJ Contorno, Senior Product Manager at Savage Arms. "With the addition of new calibers, we are confident that this rifle will continue to exceed expectations and deliver exceptional performance for beginners and seasoned shooters alike."
